The Three Doshas

Vata, Pitta and Kapha — three patterns of energy that shape body and mind.

Ayurveda describes three doshas — Vata, Pitta and Kapha — as the basic patterns of energy moving through every person. They are a traditional way of noticing tendencies: how you move, digest, sleep, and respond to stress.

Everyone holds all three; what differs is the proportion. One or two usually lead, giving you your particular rhythm. This is a lens for self-understanding, not a box or a diagnosis.

Vata governs movement, Pitta governs transformation, and Kapha governs structure. Learning their qualities helps you notice when you feel balanced — and what gently brings you back when you don't.

In a nutshell

  • Three doshas: Vata (movement), Pitta (transformation), Kapha (structure).
  • You have all three — the mix is what makes you, you.
  • A lens for self-reflection, never a diagnosis.
