Effort: Strong — extra care
Educational and traditional language about the body is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a reason to skip a doctor. Stop on sharp pain, dizziness, numbness, or panic.
Kundalini names a traditional image: śakti wound at the base of the spine, which in some accounts rises through cakras toward the crown. Hatha manuals and later tantric books describe this in poetic physiology. It is a symbol-system, not a radiology report.
Twentieth-century brands (including some “Kundalini Yoga” class formats) mixed these images with rapid breath, pumping navels, and repetitive chant. Some of those schools have serious ethical controversies. This page does not teach their kriyas.
What we can say safely: vigorous breath and heat change the nervous system quickly. That can feel like energy. It can also feel like panic. Unsupervised “awakening” is not a goal on Divine Dhun.
How to practise from here
- If you are curious, start with slow hatha, gentle breath, and mantra — the ground those texts assume.
- Do not copy rapid breath-of-fire, intense locks, or “raise kundalini” challenges from video.
- If you already practise in a lineage, stay with that teacher’s pacing. This site will not override them.
What it does in the body
Anything that heats, pumps, or hyperventilates the body will change heart rate, CO₂, and adrenaline. Traditional kundalini language describes rising heat, trembling, and lights. Those same sensations can be over-breathing. We describe; we do not induce.
- Breath chemistry
- Fast pumping breath dumps carbon dioxide and can cause tingling, dizziness and a sense of “energy”. That is often hypocapnia, not a cakra opening. Sit and breathe normally if it happens.
- Autonomic surge
- Heat, chant and rhythm can spike sympathetic arousal then crash. Some people call the crash bliss; others call it anxiety. There is no moral ranking.
- Pelvis and spine
- Pelvic pumps and forceful bandhas load the pelvic floor and lumbar discs. Injury here is quiet until it is not. Skip them unless a qualified teacher is in the room.
- Sleep and sensory load
- Overstimulating practices late in the day can wreck sleep. Traditional maps also warn of restlessness when energy is “stirred” without stability.
- What it is not
- This is not a method to force enlightenment, treat trauma, or diagnose “blocked kundalini”. Those claims belong in marketing, not in a careful body.
Go gently
- No breath of fire, no forced locks, no unsupervised kriya sets from this page.
- History of panic, bipolar, psychosis, or trauma: do not experiment with intense kundalini-style classes without clinical and teaching support.
- Pregnancy, glaucoma, high blood pressure, epilepsy: avoid rapid breath and inversions.
- If you feel electric surges, sleeplessness, or terror after a class elsewhere, stop and seek a grounded teacher and, if needed, a doctor.
Practise with a teacher
YouTube stays behind the same consent gate as the rest of Divine Dhun. These are public classes from teachers we already use on the practice side, not a medical prescription.
Keep these
- Kundalini is a traditional map, not a weekend workshop.
- Heat and tingling are often just breath chemistry.
- Divine Dhun will not teach awakening kriyas.
